This course is designed to help candidates thoughtfully examine various approaches to classroom discipline and management and to ensure that the discipline approach is consistent with the overall instructional program. Emphasis is placed on ways to make informal decisions concerning the various approaches to discipline and properly managing various aspects of the classroom; i.e., teacher-student relationships, personal philosophy, the understanding of the assumptions that undergird various discipline approaches, the physical environment, knowledge of theory and practical applications for classroom discipline and management, so that students will stay on task and maintain interest in learning. Prerequisite: PSYC 305 and admission to the Teacher Education program. Co-requisite: EDUC 314.
