A one semester introductory course designed to provide a broad overview of chemical principles including measurements, atomic theory and bonding, chemical symbols, formulas and equations, inorganic and organic compounds, acid-base theory, and the biochemical highlights of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids and metabolism.

PREREQUISITE: Acceptable placement scores or completion of all Writing, Reading and Math Learning Support Competencies and either MATH 1130, MATH 1710 or higher, or concurrent enrollment in or completion of MATH 1005. (Note: May not be concurrently enrolled in MATH 0105.)

COREQUISITE: CHEM 1030L

HOURS: Three lecture, two laboratory hours per week.

GEN ED: Course can be used to meet Minimum General Education Core requirements.
