This elective course examines the phenomena of various types of individual, group, and societal level crises, as well as various treatment modalities and emergency interventions appropriate for undergraduate social workers. This course will introduce students to various types of crisis situations, identify research and knowledge needed to intervene in crisis situations, and teach students practice skills for immediate intervention. Potential topics may include but are not limited to suicide and homicide, family or community violence, sexual assault, mental health crises, death, and natural disasters. Summer and Fall semesters. Pre-requisite: Any Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology course or department head approval.
