Description:
Undergraduate students, through preparation sessions and a pedagogy course, facilitate discussions among groups of students in classes that encourage active engagement. Learning assistants (LAs) attend the assigned class to provide assistance during active learning lectures, meet regularly with faculty teaching the assigned class, and participate in weekly discussion of assigned readings, teaching practice, and theory. To be an LA for a major’s course, students must have completed that course with a B or above. No more than five total credit hours of experiential learning courses (BIOL 4000, BIOL 4001, BIOL 4005 or equivalent, BIOL 4570) can be applied toward major requirements. May be repeated for up to 9 hours credit. PREREQUISITE: BIOL 1120 and permission of instructor.
