(was 4879)This course covers the arrival of Africans in western hemisphere, the expansion of antebellum slavery into US lower south by 1820, the place of the African Diaspora, the nature of colonial slavery, the impact of slavery on the formation of United States, the development of African American culture, and the relationships between enslaved and free Blacks, Europeans, and Native Americans during colonial and early national periods. PREREQUISITE: HIST 3881, or AAAS 2100, or equivalent introductory survey course.
