This 4000/6000 level elective course allows students to understand poverty concepts and theories, and to explore poverty in rural areas and urban centers from the global level to the local level. Students are exposed to the realities of poverty and examine the role of power in shaping the social, economic, and military policies that result in poverty and social exclusion. The strengths and weaknesses of various approaches to policy development and analysis are explored. No prerequisites. This course may not be repeated. Cross-listed with SWRK 6944.
