This is the first of a two-semester science course for science majors and pre-professional students. The course is a systematic study of the fundamental principles of organic chemistry with interpretation of structure and properties based upon modern atomic and molecular theory. Topics include aliphatic hydrocarbons, stereochemistry, nucleophilic substitutions and eliminations, spectroscopy, and aromatic hydrocarbons.For the laboratory component:�Application of laboratory techniques to the synthesis, separation, and identification of organic compounds.
