This course introduces the student to the power and politics of sport organizations and principles and practices of their governance in amateur and professional sports at the community, state, national, and international levels. Emphasis will be given to concepts of economic, political and social factors impacting sport governance, leadership, ethics, and governance trends and challenges. This course will include, but is not limited to, an examination of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and national and international professional sports leagues. Prerequisites: SMGT 240.
