This course is designed to give students a background in the scientific understanding and evidence for global climate change, impacts of global climate change, and policy and political aspects of climate change. The beginning of the course emphasizes how weather and climate systems operate on Earth, discussion of scientific evidence for ancient and modern climate change, and predictive modeling of climate change. The second part of the course investigates the impacts of climate change on the Earth system and people, including consideration of uncertainty, timeline of change and geography. The third part of the course addresses approaches to mitigating and adapting to climate change, and the politics of one of the most divisive scientific topics today.
