This course is designed for the students to recognize and provide clinical care for the special needs patient, including the medically compromised. Students will gain an understanding of indications, contraindications, and complications of treating a variety of special needs patients including pediatric, pregnant, preadolescent, postmenopausal, geriatric, and patients with cleft lip or palate. Students will also gain understanding of providing care for patients with a variety of mental and physical disabilities and impairments. Students will also learn to care for the cancer patient as well as those with chronic and acute illnesses. Students will learn to recognize physical abuse and neglected conditions and how to respond appropriately. This course consists of 2 lecture hours per week. (2-0-0)
