Northeast Tennessee has a rich and varied history in traditional American music as any region in the country. From the seminal Bristol Sessions to live performance radio, the Tri-Cities region has played an important role in the commercialization of country music. Additionally, the informal and social setting for the music has played equally as important a role in its development as an art form. The course would cover early frontier settlement through 1941, the beginning of WWII.
