An introduction to critical theory from the perspective of artistic practice. An examination of the origins of contemporary critical discourse, as well as the numerous schools of thought known as postmodernism. The student will acquire a framework for understanding and engaging contemporary art, and will gain an appreciation for the potential of theory to inform artistic research. Fall semester. Prerequisites: ART 2150 and 2900 or department head approval.
