This course provides a background of the characteristics of individuals who are primarily diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Asperger Syndrome, or other Pervasive Developmental Disorders. Reviewed are behavioral characteristics of students with diagnostic symptoms, family dynamics, varied diagnostic and assessment methods, and theories of etiology. Included is an overview of instructional issues that pertain to the development of individuals with ASD. Spring semester. Prerequisite: Checkpoint 1 or department head approval.
