Description:
Calculus-based survey of principles of optics, and of the early conceptual advances in 20th-century physics: the Bohr atom, quantum theory, relativity, nuclear physics and elementary particles. Every semester. Lecture 3 hours, laboratory 2 hours. Prerequisites: ENME 1030 and ENCE 1040, or PHYS 1030/PHYS 1030L and PHYS 1040/PHYS 1040L, or PHYS 2300/PHYS 2300L; MATH 1910/MATH 1911 or MATH 1950, MATH 1920 or MATH 1960, all with minimum grades of C, or department head approval. Corequisite: PHYS 2320L laboratory or department head approval.
