Description:
Basic aspects of geometrical and physical optics, including interference, diffraction, and polarization; optical systems; wave equations and superposition; laser basics. Fall semester alternate years. Lecture 3 hours, laboratory 2 hours. Prerequisites: PHYS 2300/PHYS 2300L, PHYS 2310/PHYS 2310L, PHYS 2320/PHYS 2320L or PHYS 1030/PHYS 1030L, PHYS 1040/PHYS 1040L; and MATH 1920 or MATH 1960; or department head approval. Corequisite: PHYS 3070L or department head approval. Standard letter grade. Laboratory/studio course fee will be assessed.
