Nature of six main classes of materials: metals, polymers and elastomers, ceramics and glasses, semiconductors, superconductors and composites; mechanical, thermal, electrical and electronic, magnetic and optical properties of materials; environmental effects on performance of materials: creep, corrosion, oxidation; methodology for selection of materials for named applications. PREREQUISITE: CHEM 1110 with a grade of C- or better; MECH 2320 or BIOM 2810 with a grade of C- or better.
