Prerequisite(s): CSCI 2160 and CSCI 2210 and CSCI 2200. The study of operating systems which are the primary resource managers of computer hardware. The main features provided by operating systems, including process management, storage management, processor management, and auxiliary storage management are studied in detail. Topics of networking and security are introduced. Case studies of representative commercial operating systems highlight the main features common to operating systems. Use of the computing laboratory is an integral part of the course.
