ICD-CM Coding introduces the student to coding conventions, guidelines, and proper use of the Index and Tabular Lists for coding diagnoses of ambulatory (outpatient) and inpatient medical necessity. HIPAA standards, reimbursement, and Medicare fraud/abuse are also reviewed. Instruction focuses on mastery of coding guidelines and medical terminology used in professional medical practice.Prerequisite: ADMN 2303 with a grade of “C” or higher. BIOL 2010 with a grade of “C” or higher. Co-requisite: BIOL 2020. If student has had BIOL 2020, a grade of “C” or higher is required. ADMN 2303 and ADMN 2311 cannot be taken at the same time. Student must maintain a grade of “C” or higher in order to progress in program. This course not part of a Tennessee Transfer Path.
