  Lab-based activities designed to strengthen and expand knowledge of topics in secondary mathematics, focusing on topics from precalculus and elementary calculus. Explorations involve the use of multiple representations, transformations, data analysis techniques and interconnections among geometry, probability and algebra. Most labs include significant use of various technologies. The use of quantitative approaches and building relationships between discrete and continuous reasoning are recurrent themes. Spring semester. Lecture 3 hours. Prerequisite: University, STEM, and major department grade point averages of at least 2.5. STEM 1020, MATH 1960 or MATH 2200 all with minimum grades of C, or STEM Director approval. Admission to the STEM Education program.

  Introductory concepts of sets, functions, equivalence relations, ordering relations, logic, methods of proof, and axiomatic theories with topics from combinatorics, graph theory, or abstract algebra. Fall and spring semesters. Prerequisite: MATH 1920 and MATH 1921 with minimum grades of C or department head approval. This course is a prerequisite for Mathematics 3250, 3500, 4720, 4270, 4200, 4050, 4000 and 4010. Mathematics majors should enroll in it at the end of the sophomore year or beginning of the junior year.
