Changing nature and variety of American English, especially in vocabulary and usage, its range, formal, informal, written, colloquial, and standard and dialectal variations; shifting standards of usage especially reflected in dictionaries; appropriateness dependent upon context; and language as both reflector and shaper of thought. PREREQUISITE: ENGL 1010,1020, 2201 or 2202 with a C- or better, or their equivalent.
