      Paramedic Skills Lab II is a laboratory based course intended to utilize scenarios to emphasize respiratory/cardiac emergencies (on-going from EMSP 1401), pulmonology, neurology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, urology and nephrology, hematology, gynecology, obstetrics, neonatology, pediatrics, trauma, continuing cardiology, and successful assessment of patients with a variety of medical conditions.       Paramedic Capstone serves as a mechanism to ensure that the student meets academic requirements to test for National Registry and licensure. This course will include all necessary steps needed to complete the program including exit exams, preparation for National Registry practical and written exams, exit interviews, patient care review by the Medical Director, and any other administrative requirements that the program may deem necessary.       Paramedic Clinical II is the second of three clinical experiences designed to allow the student to meet all psychomotor and affective objectives for the clinical requirements of a paramedic program and to build upon the concepts and knowledge gained during prior and/or concurrent courses.       Paramedic Field Internship provides evidence that the student is capable of acting as a team leader in managing the emergency care and treatment of an injured or ill patient at the paramedic level. The student will demonstrate competency in this role. While all skill sets should have been achieved prior to initiating the internship, patient types and pathologies may be used from this experience to complete the minimum graduation academic requirements as set forth in CoAEMSP accreditation documents and the Tennessee Office of EMS.       This is the initial training course in the art of pre-hospital emergency medical care that follows the guidelines set by the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.). First Responders are individuals trained to assess patients, use AED's, provide emergency care, and move patients without causing injury. Successful completion of this course enables the student to sit for licensure examination given by the National Registry of EMT. (Prerequisite: Students must have a current Health Care Provider level CPR card.) (Combination lecture/lab 2 hours lecture/2 hours lab per week)

      This course, which includes EMR 1000, is designed to provide the student with knowledge of basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. Student learning will focus on human anatomy and physiology, disease process, initial assessment and patient stabilization, proper use of equipment such as automatic external defibrillators, airway adjuncts as well as legal issues, scope of practice, extrication, documentation, communication, and ambulance protocols. This course is designed to meet all State and National requirements to prepare in testing for the EMT exam given by the National Registry of EMTs. (Prerequisites: 18 year old, High School Graduate or HSE, TEAS V for AH Exam, and admission to the EMT Program) (10 hours lecture/ 4 hours lab/ 3 hours clinical per week)Not part of a TN Transfer Pathway.

      This course is designed to provide the student with knowledge of the acute and critical changes in the physiological, psychological, and clinical symptoms pertaining to pre-hospital emergency medical care of the infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. Student learning will focus on knowledge and practical skills related to Medical/Legal/Ethical Issues, Anatomy, Airway Management, Patient Assessment and Medical/Trauma Emergencies, Scenario Based practice, Pediatrics/Geriatrics, Ambulance Operations, Domestic Violence, Bio-Terrorism, IV Initiation and Medicine Administration. Students that successfully complete this course will take the National Registry Exam for the Advanced EMT's. (Prerequisite: EMT 1100) (10 hours lecture/ 2 hours lab/ 8 hours clinical per week).Not part of a TN Transfer Pathway.

      This course is a competency-based educational program consisting of lecture and laboratory instruction. It is designed to provide the student with knowledge of the acute and critical changes in physiological, psychological, and clinical symptoms pertaining to pre-hospital emergency medical care of the infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. Students have an opportunity to acquire knowledge and practical skills related to medical/legal/ethical issues, anatomy, airway management, patient assessment and medical/trauma emergencies. This is the first semester of a two semester program that incorporates the state-mandated content and skills required for licensure. (5 hours lecture, 3 hours lab per week) EMT 160 is a pre-requisite for EMT 161

      This course is a continuation of EMT 160. This course is a competency-based educational program consisting of lecture, lab and clinical instruction. This course is designed to continue gaining knowledge and skills in Medical/Trauma assessment. It allows the students the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills learned in Scenario Based practice, Pediatrics/Geriatrics, Ambulance Operations, Domestic Violence, Bio-Terrorism, Clinical Internship. Students that successfully complete this course will take the National Registry Exam for the EMT's. Upon successfully completion of the exam, students will be eligible for licensure for EMT in the State of Tennessee. (4 hours lecture, 2 hours lab, 4 hours clinical per week)
