This is an upper-division course that examines the concepts of caregiving, both personally and professionally, for persons who have the disease of addiction. Topics include roles of caregiving, 12-step care, crisis management, personal connection, ethical boundaries, personal boundaries, cultural aspects, insurance, and legal issues. This course will not only explore the traditional theories of caregiving, but will also focus on aiding students in the development of their own personally-centered approaches to caregiving, both in their personal and professional environment as well as where and how to set healthy boundaries with persons who are addicted and or alcoholic.
