This course includes the following topcs: Emergency Medical Responder and Emergency Medical Technician-National Educational Standards competencies, roles and responsibilities of the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT), workforce safety, wellness, public health, communications, documentation, medical/legal/ethical considerations, anatomy and physiology, life span development, pathophysiology, pateitn assessment, critical thinking, airway management, respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, acute diabetic emergencies, abdominal and gastrointestinal emergencies, urologic emergencies, anaphylactic reactions, and behavioral emergencies. 5 credit hours

This course includes the following topcs: obstetrics and gynecology, neonatal care, pediatric emergencies, geriatric emegencies, environmental emergencies, patients with special challenges, EMS operations, trauma and shock. Trauma and shock will include the following topics: bleeding, soft tissue injuries, head and spine injuries, face and neck injuries, chest injuries, abdoinal and genitourinary injuries, and orthopedic injuries. 5 credit hours

      (Pre-requisites: READ 0810, ENGL 0810; with permission, may be taken concurrently with READ 0810 and ENGL 0810) (Co-requisites: EMSB 1601, EMSB 1111)This course is a laboratory based course utilizing scenarios to emphasize EMS operations, communications, documentation, medical/legal/ethical considerations, airway management, respiratory emergencies, cardiovascular emergencies, acute diabetic emergencies, abdominal and gastrointestinal emergencies, urologic emergencies, anaphylactic reactions, behavioral emergencies, assisting with medication administration, and successful assessment of patients with a variety of medical concerns. This course includes application of principles and processes discussed in EMT Medical Emergencies. 1 credit hour.
