The study of microorganisms, primarily prokaryotes and non-living infectious agents, with emphasis first on basic processes,such as observation, structure, growth, metabolism, taxonomy, virology and control; and then on applied aspects, including chemotherapeutics, microbial ecology, medical microbiology, epidemiology and food microbiology. Laboratory will stress aseptic technique, staining, enumeration and isolation and characterization of microbes.Prerequisites: BIOL 120 or BIOL 252.
