Prerequisite: MUS 2155, 3010, 3020 or permission of instructor; Crosslisted: MUS 5375;Description: This skill-based course will explore recitative styles - secco, accompagnato, arioso, Spechgesang, parlando - in opera, oratorio, cantatas, and art song throughout music history. The works of Purcell, Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Wagner, Debussy, Britten, and other will be studied and performed. Open to vocal majors and up to two piano majors.
