Prerequisites: PHYS 3110 and 3160. Topics in medical physics at an advanced undergraduate level integrated with topics from applied physics and mathematics. Possible topics include mechanics of the human body, thermodynamics and systems of many particles, diffusion and transport through neutral membranes, impulses in nerve and muscle cells, the exterior potential and the electrocardiogram, biomagnetism, electricity and magnetism at the cellular level, Fourier transforms and convolution in imaging, interactions of photons and charged particles with matter, the medical use of X-rays, nuclear medicine, and magnetic resonance imaging.
