This course is designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory biology course usually taken by biology majors during their first year. Some AP students, as college freshmen, are permitted to undertake upper-level courses in biology or to register for courses for which biology is a prerequisite. Other students may have fulfilled a basic requirement for a laboratory science course and will be able to undertake other courses to pursue their majors.

(Prerequisites: READ 0810, ENGL 0810, Math Competency 1-5)This course is an introduction to biology with emphasis on chemical, molecular and cellular biology, genetics, evolution and ecological relationships. This course surveys the kingdoms Monera, Protista, and Fungi, with emphasis on morphological and reproductive aspects of these organisms.
(Prerequisite: READ 0810, ENGL 0810, Math Competency 1-5)This course is a survey of the animal kingdom including embryonic development, structure and function of organ systems and behavioral concepts. This course surveys the plant kingdom with emphasis on morphological, physiological and reproductive aspects of plants.
