The alterations in life functions include fluid/gas transport, activity/mobility, nutrition/metabolism, and elimination. Students apply a clinical decision-making process in caring for the client in a variety of acute care, ambulatory, and community based settings. Management principles and therapeutic communication are incorporated into the plan of care for clients experiencing alterations in life functions. The student's use of core concepts and competencies is expanded to include the nursing care of obstetrical and newborn clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences. The course revolves around nursing, nursing process and obstetrical and newborn clients experiencing variations and alterations in life functions: fluid/gas transport, elimination, nutrition/metabolism, genitourinary, sensory, activity and safety. Health promotion, communication, and legal-ethical aspects of obstetrical nursing care are also explored. Pre-requisite: NURS 1050, 1051 Co-requisite: NURS 2061

      This clinical course is an extension of the Care of Childbearing Family, which continues to build on the central competencies of the nursing program. The focus remains on nursing, nursing process with emphasis on providing nursing care for obstetrical and newborn clients from diverse cultural backgrounds and experiences. The student will implement plans of care for obstetrical and newborn clients experiencing variations and alterations in life functions in a variety of clinical settings where permitted. Health promotion, communications, and legal-ethical aspect of obstetrical nursing care are also emphasized. Pre-requisite: NURS 1050, 1051 Co-requisite: NURS 2060

The course revolves around nursing, nursing process, and pediatric clients experiencing variations or alterations in life functions: fluid/gas transport, elimination, nutrition/metabolism, genitourinary, sensory, activity, and protective. Health promotion, legal-ethical issues, therapeutic communication techniques, and management strategies specific to the care of the pediatric client are incorporated into the plan of care for pediatric clients.
